A lesser known Kohima-based photography event, ‘Gallery Monet’, is gearing up to share the essence of photography by bringing photographers closer through a photographic workshop here starting from July 7 and slated till July 29.

Speaking to this correspondent, Moala Ozukum and Neteno Yhoshu who worked with a renowned photo gallery in Delhi for past two years returned to open a platform for Nagas to exhibit their photography.

Gallery Monet is inviting photographers to share their works and trade secrets with photography enthusiasts at Hotel Cimorb starting from July 7. “We are taking off with a summer photography workshop in Kohima followed by an exhibition” said Moala. She said that anyone who has access to a camera and having a burning desire to learn more about photography can join the workshop.

The Last date for registration is July 3. Moala Ozukum and Neteno Yhoshu worked with Anay Mann, a photographer based in Delhi, who is represented by Photoink and also contributes regularly to Forbes, Fortune, Wired, New York Times, Business 2.0, Time Asia, Newsweek, Travel & Leisure, Better Homes & Garden and Tehelka. The photographer has also worked with Der Spegiel, Stern, Life, Red Herring, GQ India amongst others.

He has been exhibiting his works nationally and internationally since 2004, most notably at India Habitat Center, Photoink, Recontres d’Arles-France, Ateliers de L’Image-Marseille, WhiteChapel Gallery-London, La Virreina Centre de La Imatge-Barcelona, Arco-Madrid, Musee du Quai Branly-Paris, Fotografie Forum International-Frankfurt, and Noorderlicht Photo-festival-Netherlands. Anay is also a visiting faculty member at NIFT. Delhi.

The workshop is apparently set to establish spirit uplift for the Nagas as Anay Mann will be the resource person and a trainer during the month long workshop. The objective of the creative workshop is to understand various kinds and genres of photography. Participants shall be trained in the genre of their choice, after the initial exposure to basics.

The workshop also hopes to enable budding photographers to understand the working of a camera, understanding various types of lenses and cameras, be given advice on buying the right kind of equipment according to one’s interests, exposure to famous photographers work and discussions and so on.

Gallery Monte also informed that participants will be divided in two groups. Group ‘A’ will consist of participants on vacation. Classes shall be 4 days a week. (2 hours of theory and 5-6 hours of practical, 9 to 5 pm, Monday to Thursday).

Group B will be those ‘with limited time.’ For Group B the workshop will begin from 9 to 5 pm, Friday and Saturday (or Sunday).
