TOBU, AUGUST 5 (MExN): Newman Higher Secondary School, Tobu, established in 1976, formally launched its Golden Jubilee year with an inauguration ceremony held on August 5.

The event was presided over by the Principal, Rev Fr Kevishi Solomon, in the presence of the school management, faculty, and students. The occasion featured symbolic and spiritual observances, including the lighting of the Jubilee Candle and the reading of the Holy Scripture. A tribute was also paid to the pioneers, benefactors, and former teachers and students who have passed away, with prayers offered for the repose of their souls.

The school will mark its 50th anniversary on January 8, 2026. The Jubilee Year has been proclaimed as a period of reflection and preparation—mentally, physically, and spiritually—for the culmination of this historic milestone.

Though administered by the Diocese of Kohima, Newman HSS has become an integral part of the social and cultural landscape of the Tobu area. Over the decades, the institution has shaped the lives of thousands, overcoming the challenges of geographic isolation, limited infrastructure, and socio-political unrest.

Founded with the aim of bringing education to one of Nagaland’s most remote regions, the school has evolved into a centre of hope, learning, and transformation. It has produced officers, administrators, educators, and community leaders who have contributed to both the state and the nation. Its alumni stand as a testament to its enduring legacy.

Ahead of the launch, a coordination meeting was held on August 4, bringing together leaders from the Tobu area to discuss the roadmap for the Jubilee celebrations. Many leaders expressed emotional reflections on the school’s journey and affirmed their support to mark the occasion in a befitting manner. For the people of this economically underprivileged region, the school continues to serve as a guiding light for the youth.

The Tobu Sub-Division has pledged full cooperation to ensure the success of the Golden Jubilee celebrations. The school management has appealed for continued moral support and prayers from the people of Tobu-Moka.

Speaking at the programme, Rev Fr Solomon said the Jubilee is a time for reconciliation and urged teachers and students to forgive past grievances, embrace unity, and seek blessings during this momentous period.
