Zunheboto, April 1 (MExN): The Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP) annual review meeting was held at Zunheboto Forest conference hall on March 25 and 26.
Dr Sentitula IFS, DFO cum DMU head highlighted that in spite of the lockdown, the villagers have achieved 467 ha of plantation in Yesheluto, Emlo and Meshilimi village planting 10,4426 saplings during 2019-20.
The 2nd batch of villages taken up for forestry intervention activities are Sukomi,Vekuho New, Asukhuto, Ighanumi, Natsumi and Mukali.
Tokugha ADMU Head explained in brief about the JICA project, nursery stock and plantation activities to the villagers.
Nursery stocks availability species wise in nurseries were shared by the JFMC president from all the 9 villages.
N Nyamok Konyak EAC Zunheboto attended the meeting on behalf of the District Administration and encouraged the JFMCs to take maximum benefit of the project which will directly benefit the villagers and the future generations.
Status and progress of activities of Batch 1 and 2 villages, physical and financial achievements and target were presented by FMU Head Atoizu Bokato Sema and FMU head Pughoboto Kihoto Wotsa while DMU supporting staff of NFMP delivered presentations.
The meeting was attended by 48 members including DMU Head, ADMU, FMU Heads, supporting staff, Staff from NFMP Range Beat and JFMC members from 9 villages.
One of the main components of the NFMP along with the Forestry interventions and Biodiversity Conservation is livelihood improvement and community development. The DMU along with the FMU distributed 450 numbers of 14-day old vaccinated broiler chicks along with starter feed to all the 9 villages to improve their livelihood and work towards conservation of forests.
