Dimapur, May 26 (MExN): A total of 56 new Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) will constructed at selected railway stations under the ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.’ This was announced by the Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR) on May 26 which added that advanced amenities for its passengers, such as lifts & escalators, up-class waiting lounges etc were also under construction.
According to the authority’s Chief PRO, this is meant to ensure passengers’ safety, convenience and comfort by constructing at locations within its zone as per requirement. Currently there are 279 operational FOBs of various width and length located over five divisions of Kitahar, Alipurduar, Rangiya, Lumding and Tinsukia.
In the last financial year 2023-24, a total of 10 new bridges were constructed at Rangiya and Katihar divisions of the zone. Under Rangiya division, Azara, Patiladaha, Sorbhog, Singra, Boko, Bamunigaon, Changsari, Chaygaon & Baihata stations came up with one FOB each. At Katihar division, Harishchandrapur railway station came up with one new FOB, the official reported. “FOBs are commonly constructed at certain locations as to bridge the gap between platforms at railway stations, to promote safety & convenience for passengers,” it said. It is the most commonly used path for safely change platform by passengers while boarding or de-boarding trains. FOBs are typically made of steel or concrete and can be either open or covered.
