Maligaon, June 24 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has achieved a significant milestone in its drive towards complete railway electrification with the successful energisation of the 132 KV transmission line from Haflong Grid Sub-Station (GSS) to New Haflong Traction Sub-Station (NHLG TSS).

The transmission line was energised at 2:22 pm on June 17, marking the completion of a crucial component of the railway electrification project in the strategically important Lumding–Badarpur Hill section, an NFR release said on Wednesday.

The commissioning of the New Haflong Traction Sub-Station is a major step towards enabling electric train operations across the challenging hill route, which serves as a vital rail link connecting the Barak Valley and the northeastern states with the rest of the country.

With the successful energisation, all major physical works related to the traction power supply infrastructure have been completed, the release said.

The project has now entered its final stage and the section is expected to be commissioned for electric train operations in the coming weeks after the completion of mandatory testing, inspection and trial runs.

According to the NFR, electrification of the Lumding–Badarpur Hill section will enhance operational efficiency, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, improve hauling capacity, lower maintenance costs and contribute significantly to environmentally sustainable railway operations.

NFR reiterated its commitment to modernising railway infrastructure and providing faster, greener and more efficient rail services across the northeastern region.
