Maligaon, August 13 (MExN): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has commissioned a series of signalling and telecommunication initiatives between January 1 and July 31, aimed at strengthening railway safety, operational efficiency, communication systems and passenger services.
As part of the safety modernisation measures, Electronic Interlocking has been commissioned at nine stations, while 40 Level Crossing Gates have been interlocked and 39 Sliding Booms commissioned. NFR has also commissioned 29.73 route kilometres of Automatic Block Signalling in the Aluabari Road–Gaisal–Panjipara section. The system is expected to strengthen signalling capabilities and improve train operations.
To enhance surveillance, CCTV systems have been commissioned at 74 stations and 24 Level Crossing Gates, enabling improved real-time monitoring and contributing to railway safety and security. In a move towards greater operational digitalisation, the VoIP-based Train Control Communication System (TCCS) has been installed and commissioned in the Lumding and Tinsukia divisions. The system is intended to provide more reliable communication for train control operations.
NFR has also upgraded RailTel Corporation of India Limited (RCIL) Passenger Reservation System circuits at 10 Tier-I locations from 2 Mbps to 10 Mbps, increasing network capacity and reliability. Integrated Passenger Information Systems have additionally been provided at eight stations to improve the availability of timely information for passengers.
