Dimapur, April 7 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has introduced a set of in-house developed technological systems aimed at enhancing safety and maintenance of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express at the Kamakhya Coaching Depot.
According to a press release issued by NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, the newly developed systems include an Air Spring Monitoring System, a Portable Vibration Monitoring System and an External Pit Power Supply and Pre-cooling System. The tools have been developed using advanced and cost-effective technologies aligned with global benchmarks.
The release stated that the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express has been operational between Kamakhya and Howrah since January this year, marking a shift towards modern rail travel. Building on this, NFR has introduced systems aimed at improving maintenance efficiency and operational safety.
On the Air Spring Monitoring System, NFR stated that it enables condition-based monitoring of coaches through continuous tracking of key parameters and early detection of anomalies using acoustic imaging. “This predictive and data-driven approach enhances operational reliability and strengthens safety standards,” the release stated.
The Portable Vibration Monitoring System, deployed for the first time for Vande Bharat sleeper rakes at Kamakhya depot, allows real-time condition monitoring of rolling stock. It helps identify potential issues at an early stage and facilitates timely corrective measures, reducing chances of failure.
NFR also informed that the External Pit Power Supply and Pre-cooling System has been indigenously designed to support maintenance during overhead equipment shutdowns. The system supplies power to onboard services such as HVAC, lighting and diagnostics, while reducing risks to maintenance staff and improving turnaround time of train rakes.
NFR stated that the initiatives are part of its efforts to adopt modern technologies, strengthen safety systems and improve passenger experience in high-speed and premium train services.
