MALIGAON, JUNE 30 (MExN): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has introduced a smart Internet of Things (IoT)-based system for real-time monitoring of lifts at major stations under the Rangiya Division aimed at improved passenger safety, reliability and operational efficiency.

According to an NFR press release, the Indian Railways Native IoT-based Yield Analysis, Telemetry, Recording and Control (IR-NIYANTRAC) system, developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), enables centralised, real-time monitoring of lift operations.

The system continuously monitors the operational status of lifts, detects faults or abnormalities instantly and generates real-time alerts for maintenance personnel. It said.

It also facilitates quicker fault diagnosis, faster restoration of services and preventive maintenance, thereby minimising downtime and ensuring uninterrupted lift services for passengers, it added.

NFR said the platform also supports data-driven asset management, helping improve the efficiency and performance of station infrastructure.

The project has been fully implemented under the Rangiya Division, covering four lifts, two each at New Bongaigaon and Rangiya stations.

The railway said the initiative reflects its continued focus on leveraging technology to enhance passenger amenities and develop smarter, safer and more passenger-friendly railway stations.
