Maligaon, August 25 (MExN): Northeast Frontier Railway (N.F. Railway) has made significant strides towards the Indian Railways' "Zero Scrap Mission," generating over Rs. 200 crores from scrap sales in the last fiscal year.
This initiative aims to ensure that all stations, depots, sheds, workshops, and sections under its jurisdiction are free from scrap materials.
In the fiscal year 2023-24, N.F. Railway sold 23,628 metric tonnes (MT) of scrap rails and P-way materials, along with 19,192 MT of miscellaneous scrap items, yielding a total revenue of Rs. 202.84 crores. Additionally, 26 diesel locomotives, 247 coaches, and 284 wagons that had been condemned were also sold.
So far in the current fiscal year, N.F. Railway has generated Rs. 41.58 crores from the sale of scrap materials, a 34.65% increase compared to the Rs. 30.88 crores earned during the same period last year.
The "Zero Scrap Mission" not only boosts revenue but also creates space for accumulating other materials, including scrap. This initiative has helped N.F. Railway surpass its scrap sale targets, improve the aesthetics of stations and workplaces, and maintain clean and environmentally friendly railway premises.
