
MALIGAON, FEBRUARY 9 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recorded 0.942 million tonnes (MT) of freight loading in January, marking steady growth in the transportation of essential commodities across the region. Several commodities saw significant increases compared to the same period last year. Cement loading rose by 67.9%, fertilizer by 28.6%, and petroleum, oil, and lubricants (POL) by 4.4%. Ballast loading increased by 31.3%, while stone chips saw a 46.7% rise.
As of January, NFR’s cumulative freight loading for the fiscal year reached 8.671 million tonnes, reflecting a 3.8% increase over the previous year.
The railway attributed the growth to rising economic activity in the region and ongoing efforts to enhance service reliability and efficiency. NFR said it remains committed to technical advancements aimed at sustaining the upward trend in freight transportation.
