Maligaon, July 11 (MExN): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) unloaded 1,025 freight rakes across its jurisdiction in June, maintaining a strong freight performance and ensuring uninterrupted transportation of essential and industrial commodities, officials said on July 11.
The railway zone handled commodities including food grains, food-grade items, fertilisers, sugar, coal, salt, tank wagons and other goods at various goods sheds during the month, facilitating timely distribution across the region.
Assam accounted for the highest unloading with 589 rakes, comprising 272 rakes of essential commodities and 317 rakes of non-essential commodities, highlighting the railways' role in supporting public distribution systems, industrial activities and consumer demand.
Among the northeastern states, Tripura unloaded 68 rakes, followed by Nagaland with 22, Manipur with 20, Arunachal Pradesh with eight and Mizoram with five.
Outside the Northeast, West Bengal recorded the unloading of 184 rakes, while Bihar accounted for 129 rakes carrying both essential and non-essential commodities.
NFR said the continuous movement of essential commodities was crucial for meeting daily requirements while supporting trade, industrial activities and economic growth across the region.
The railway zone added that continuous monitoring of freight operations had helped reduce turnaround time and improve unloading efficiency.
