Maligaon, August 8 (MExN): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) maintained its strong freight momentum in July 2026, unloading a total of 1,052 freight rakes across the zone during the month.
NFR continued to ensure uninterrupted transportation of essential and industrial commodities throughout July, handling foodgrains, food-grade items, fertilisers, sugar, coal, salt, tank wagons and other goods at various goods sheds across the zone.
A significant share of the freight traffic was dedicated to meeting the requirements of the northeastern states, with Assam recording the highest unloading of 596 rakes comprising essential and non-essential commodities.
The figure underscored the vital role of the Railways in supporting public distribution systems, industrial activities and daily consumer needs.
During the month, 55 rakes were unloaded in Tripura, 23 in Nagaland, 18 in Manipur, eight in Arunachal Pradesh, eight in Mizoram and one in Meghalaya.
West Bengal recorded the unloading of 200 rakes, while Bihar accounted for 143 rakes comprising both essential and non-essential commodities, further strengthening regional supply chains, trade connectivity and economic activities across the region.
NFR said the continuous movement of essential and other commodities was vital for meeting people's daily needs while supporting and strengthening economic activities in the region.
Effective monitoring at every level has also helped reduce turnaround time and improve overall unloading efficiency, it said.
Train services affected by track restoration
Meanwhile, NFR is continuing restoration work near New Harangajao station following the settlement of railway tracks on Line-1 and Line-2.
Train operations over the Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section are being maintained through Line-3 with enhanced safety measures in place.
In view of the ongoing restoration work, NFR has announced additional changes in train services.
Train No. 15615 Guwahati-Silchar Express, scheduled to commence its journey on August 9, has been cancelled, while Train No. 15616 Silchar-Guwahati Express, scheduled to commence its journey on August 10, has also been cancelled.
The following trains have been rescheduled: Train No. 15650 Narangi-Agartala Express, commencing its journey on August 9, will depart at 10.30 pm.
Train No. 15649 Agartala-Narangi Express, commencing its journey on August 9, will depart at 11.30 pm. Train No. 15609 Guwahati-Sairang Express, commencing its journey on August 9, will depart at 11.30 pm.
Train No. 15610 Sairang-Guwahati Express, commencing its journey on August 9, will depart at 9.30 pm. Train No. 15611 Rangiya-Silchar Express, commencing its journey on August 9, will depart at 11.30 pm.
Train No. 15612 Silchar-Rangiya Express, commencing its journey on August 9, will depart at 5 am on August 10. Train No. 01666 Agartala-Rani Kamalapati Special, commencing its journey on August 9, will depart at 11 pm.
NFR said the restoration work and train service adjustments were being undertaken to ensure safe and efficient train operations in the affected section.
