Maligaon, October 12 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) unloaded 1,094 freight rakes across its zone in September 2026, maintaining its freight operations momentum, an official statement said on Monday.

The railway continued to facilitate the transportation of essential and industrial commodities during the month. Foodgrains, food-grade items, fertilisers, sugar, coal, salt, tank wagons and other goods were handled at various goods sheds across the zone to ensure timely distribution and maintain the reliability of freight services.

Assam accounted for the highest number of unloaded freight rakes at 585, comprising both essential and non-essential commodities. The movement supported public distribution systems, industrial activities and daily consumer requirements, the statement said.

During the same period, 102 freight rakes were unloaded in Tripura, 15 in Nagaland, 28 in Manipur, six in Arunachal Pradesh and five in Mizoram.

Outside the northeastern states, West Bengal recorded the unloading of 208 freight rakes, while Bihar accounted for 145. The consignments comprised both essential and non-essential commodities, contributing to regional supply chains, trade connectivity and economic activities.

The continuous movement of essential and other commodities is crucial to meeting daily requirements and supporting economic activities across the region, the NFR said.

Effective monitoring at various levels has also helped reduce turnaround time and improve overall unloading efficiency, it added.
