NFR upgrades turnout at Langting Station Yard to enhance safety

Maligaon, September 1 (MExN): In a move to bolster safety and operational efficiency, the Lumding division of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has upgraded the track turnout at Langting yard in the Lumding-Badarpur hill section.

The existing 1 in 12 turnout has been replaced with a safer 1 in 16 turnout, marking a significant milestone as this is the first such upgrade implemented in the zone.

The previous 1 in 12 turnout at Langting yard was laid on a 3.5-degree curve, leading to a sharp 7.5-degree crossover curvature, which posed challenges for smooth train operations. The new 1 in 16 turnout has reduced this curvature to 5.73 degrees, ensuring safer and more efficient train movement through the yard.

The replacement process involved meticulous planning, including multiple rounds of machine tamping using MFI technology to stabilize the tracks and maintain optimal alignment.

Following the success of this installation, NFR has plans to replace 12 more turnouts in the Lumding-Badarpur hills section. The projects have been sanctioned and are set to be executed soon.
