DIMAPUR, AUGUST 16 (MExN): Three days after Saturday’s multiple mud and rock slides at National Highway 29 (formerly 39) work was still going on Tuesday, August 16 to restore normal vehicular traffic. GREF personnel of 89 RCC, Zubza working at one of the affected segments, about three kilometres away from the Chumukedima Police Check Post said that slides had occurred earlier in the day in one place. But it was not that grave.
Two bulldozers were seen clearing the debris at two points – one at the check post and the other about two kilometers beyond, towards Jharnapani. According to a GREF worker, it would take one week at the least to make the road safe enough. However, it would all depend on the weather.
For the time being, the stretch between Patkai Bridge and ‘Kuki Dolong’ (near Jharnapani) has been regulated into a one-way route. Vehicles coming from Kohima and vice-versa are allowed to cross only at regular intervals, one convoy at a time. Commuters are requested to adhere to the advice of the traffic police stationed at ‘Kuki Dolong’ and Patkai Bridge, for the convenience of all.
