After a one-year COVID-19 gap, the ninth season of the annual Dimapur Night Carnival (DNC) kicked off December 14 evening with much fanfare and gaiety here at the Naga Shopping Arcade, Dimapur.

The first night of the 5-day DNC, jointly organized by District administration, Dimapur Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) and East Dimapur Business Association (EDBA), was themed “First Night Tribute to Oting.”

On the first night, more than 150 stalls including food dhabas, fancy goods, entertainment and family corners, games arenas were opened for denizens of Dimapur and visitors from neighbouring states to enjoy the onset of the festive season.

Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, Rajesh Soundararajan, who officially launched the district-level carnival in his address, said that despite the Covid-19 pandemic which hampered all activities since 2020, this year’s edition of DNC can be termed as a “happy turn of events.”

The DC expressed optimism that with the re-launch of DNC, the event would create opportunities to young local entrepreneurs to enhance and expose their entrepreneurship skills besides enabling the general citizens to partake of the festive season and “evening culture.”

Soundararajan further termed the hosting of the grande finale of ‘The Stage’ music contest on the DNC opening night as a fitting tribute to the spirit of the carnival.

Earlier, DCCI vice president, V Shikuto Sema, delivered the welcome address. The event commenced with invocation by King Jesus Family Church pastor, Rev. D James Ngullie, followed by a minute silence in memory of the victims of Oting incident.
