NISHTHA Training: Teachers in Kohima complete 2nd phase

Kohima, February 8 (MExN): The 2nd phase of five-day NISHTHA training for Kohima district held at TM Government Higher Secondary School concluded on February 8.
During the valedictory function, a press release received here stated that one of the trainees, Albert Tungoe while sharing feedback pointed out that there was an element of repetition and “nothing new” and mostly young teachers taking part should be avoided in order to give equal opportunity to all. He mentioned of lapses such as improper division of groups, size of classroom/group and priority be accorded to classification of teachers to focus.
Kewasin Khing commented that teachers must come out of comfort zone and be part of the professions and appealed all to adopt “Tobacco Free Zone” within the school campus and strive to be good teachers in the midst of transition.
Vikedono Sesa, Reader SCERT emphasized that every training is a time of reflection upon ones profession. She highlighted various categories of trainees on behalf of resource persons collectively such as young and smart, punctual and regular, Mr & Ms Polite, inspectors and supervisors and verge of retiring teachers with its humourous characteristics. She encouraged teachers to have “faith in ourselves” discarding low self-esteem but be responsible, role model, faith in the subject one teach, passionate and respect ones profession and have faith in the learners.
Earlier, Kelevino, DIET Lecturer (KRP NISHTHA) as the chairperson apprised and appealed the teacher-trainees to apply the skills, approach, method and strategy of pedagogical process at their respective schools which they have learnt.
Presentation on pedagogy of four subjects along with leadership was presented by the teacher-trainees. A presentation on pedagogy of language (English) was enacted by trainees with role play on the poem “The Rebel” written by DJ Enright and “The Three Questions” written by Leo Tolstoy. “Least of Common Multiple (LM)” with role play was performed by trainees on pedagogy of Mathematics.
Topics such as “market around us and flora and fauna of Nagaland on medicinal plants” were presented on pedagogy of social sciences. An activity on the topic “Living Organisms” was conducted on pedagogy of science.
Hitilo Kath, teacher-trainee presented on the topic “Qualities of Leadership” with characteristics of leadership, activity. “Best Practices of Schools” was presented by Khriemenou Chielie listing relevant and practical practices namely- home visitation, contribute used toys to schools, peer teaching, mentoring system, incentive system, trophy system to students, remedial teaching after schools, conduct competition for affection learning like dictation, setting up libraries by village/ward councils, students body and intellectual members, acknowledge the most regular teacher, inviting professionals to schools, role play and colourful charts etc.
Kelhika Kenye, Assistant Mission Director Samagra Shiksha Nagaland in his speech cited statistics of Annual Survey of Education Report (ASER), PRATHAm 2018 on reading skills of students in government schools.
Stating that NISHTHA is the biggest training exercise in the world organised throughout the whole of India to improve learning outcomes and quality of education, Nagaland has a target to train 16,872 teachers and Head of Institutions. Emphasising that elementary section in school education is the foundation builder for any learners and there should be no room for comparison. He disclosed that as per ‘Service Rules of Nagaland', 45 hours of service be rendered to schools and that learning activities be local oriented apart of using virtual reality.
The State Resource Person (SRP) and Key Resource Persons (KRPs) included (in group 1): Emillo Patton, Deputy Director School Education and Sukanya Paul, Reader SCERT (Mathematics), Peleno Peteneilhou (PGT English), Yawao Konyak, Research Assistant SCERT (Science), Medehuno (Training Resource Assistant SCERT) and Grace Yanthan (PGT, Social Science). In the Group-2: Dr Bijano Murray (Principal Dr N Kire GHSS), Aneile Much (PGT Education), Kenilo Semp (Sr DIET Lecturer Math), Vikedono Sesa (Reader, SCERT Social Science), Keliveno(DIET Lecturer English) and Edward Alley (PGT Science).
Altogether, 388 including the SRPs, KRPs, DMA officials and EBRC personnel attended the training.
The 3rd phase of NISHTHA training for Principals, Headmasters/Headmistress, Head Teachers, Teachers In-Charge and remaining uncovered teachers and schools will be conducted in the first week of March 2020.
“Strict attendance will be maintained and failure to attend trainings will invite show cause notice to be issued from the Principal Director DoSE. Circular, venue, date and time of trainings will be intimated in due course of time,” stated the press release.
