Niuland administration holds seminar for village functionaries

Niuland, October 15 (MExN): The Niuland District Administration organised a seminar for Village functionaries at DC’s Conference hall, Niuland on October 13.

Deputy Commissioner of Niuland, Sara S Jamir, described Gaon Burhas (GBs) and Village Council Members as the “eye, ear and hand of the government.” 

The seminar was an initiative to strengthen the role and functions of the GBs and Village Councils at the village level, Jamir stated.She emphasised that they are “the chain that links the public and the district administration” and called for their proper and efficient functioning, stated a DIPR report. 

EAC Sadar, Vitoka Yeptho highlighted the functions of the Village Council Act 1978, and emphasis on the role of the VDB, village administration, Policing and village court. Vitoka said the village council is the government at the grassroot level and reminded them to maintain a written record of all their functions.

Avonuo Kire, SDO (Civil) Niuland, gave the detailed procedures and guidelines of the Permanent Residence Certificate (PRC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and IIC.

EAC Aghunaqa, Khempa, also presented in detail about the consolidated guidelines of the Home Department on the Inner Line Permit (ILP) Act, 14 August 2025.

Functioning of Policing & Basic law and order matters at village level were brief by Nokwketba Longkumer, ACP Niuland.

Atoka K Sema, BDO, Niuland emphasis on VDB Model Rules, while Er. Longchendi Wati Longchar, JE Kuhuboto (PHED) & Dr. M Jangyukala, Horticulture Inspector from DHO office, Niuland, highlighted the schemes and projects that are being implemented in the district followed by interaction and question hour.

S. Athsangla, ADC chaired the program, while Avonou Kire, SDO (Civil) delivered the vote of thanks.
