NH-29 landowners flag survey discrepancies, seek fair compensation

Dimapur, May 3 (MExN): Aggrieved landowners affected by the expansion of National Highway-29 between Purana Bazaar and Chümoukedima have raised serious concerns over alleged discrepancies in the land survey process, particularly in the assessment and classification of land, which they said has led to the rejection of compensation claims for a majority of those affected.

The issues were highlighted during a meeting of the landowners held at Hotel Saramati Conference Hall in Dimapur on May 2.

Participants at the meeting expressed concern over inconsistencies in survey records and alleged lack of transparency in the evaluation process. They said the discrepancies have adversely impacted rightful compensation, leaving many landowners without due claims.

Following detailed deliberations, the house unanimously resolved to come together as a unified body to pursue their claims.

The meeting decided to formally apprise the government and concerned authorities, urging them to urgently examine the grievances and ensure a fair, transparent and just resolution for all affected parties.

To coordinate efforts, the meeting appointed K Samuel as Coordinator, Kheto R Zhimomi as Press and Media Secretary, and Chubakumla Ao as Assistant Press and Record Secretary.

In addition, tribe representatives were also nominated to ensure inclusive representation. These include Mutsitso Kezo (Chakhesang), T Sepipa (Sangtam), Khrietuo Yoshu (Angami), Sashi Longchar (Ao), and Tonizhe Yeptho (Sümi).

The meeting concluded with a collective commitment by the landowners to pursue their cause through lawful and constructive means, seeking justice and rightful compensation.
