Ex-Servicemen League, Niuland District, marked the 80th Independence Day.
Niuland, August 15 (MExN): The Ex-Servicemen League, Niuland District, marked the 80th Independence Day. The district is home to estimated 300-400 ex-servicemen, according to its office-bearers.
The programme, held at the residence of Nk (Retd) Hekato Sumi, saw the participation of veterans, their families, and well-wishers, featuring prayer, cultural performances, games, and a financial report, according to a press release from the NDGBA Media Cell.
Established in 2025 under the leadership of President Mughavi Kiho and General Secretary Khekato Zhimomi, the League currently has 84 registered members, though the total ex-servicemen population across the district is estimated to be much higher, the League’s office bearers informed.
Addressing the gathering as special guest, Isawoto Zhimomi, President of the Niuland District GB’s Association, lauded the veterans for their sacrifices and dedicated service to the nation. He underscored that retirement from the armed forces does not mark the end of duty, but rather a transition to a different kind of service.
“Your discipline, leadership, and experience are invaluable assets for our society,” Zhimomi said, urging the veterans to mentor the youth and guide them toward careers in the Armed Forces, police, sports, education, and entrepreneurship. He stressed that military-bred values such as punctuality, courage, responsibility, and dedication can help shape responsible and successful young citizens.
The special guest also called upon the League to actively contribute to youth development, education, community service, peace, and social harmony in the district.
The celebration, he added, was not just a commemoration of India’s independence but a reminder that the spirit of service endures beyond the uniform.
The Ex-Servicemen League reiterated its resolve to support veteran welfare and play a meaningful role in the progress of Niuland District and the nation.
