NKIO citizens reaffirm decision on anauthorised selling of lands

Nkio (Peren), August 16 (MExN): The citizens of Nkio territorial jurisdiction have strictly affirmed to “strictly abide and uphold” a July 29, 2012 resolution that “strictly prohibits unauthorised selling of land by an individual (s) or group(s) within Nkio jurisdiction and to resort punitive action against the defaulter...”

“...Any individual (s) or group (s) in the past or in the days to come, without the knowledge or consent of Nkio Pumling Council (now Nkio-Lui Council), indulging themselves in such illegal selling of land shall remain unacceptable and void,” the resolution stated.

It was reaffirmed during an emergency meeting of Nkio-Lui Council, the apex body of 14 satellite villages under Nkio territorial jurisdiction, and Nkio Students’ Union (NSU) along with the general public on Augsut 2 at Old Nkio village council hall.

The meeting was held “having great concerns about the peril of traditional land issues and other pressing social issues,” stated a joint press release issued by  Akubo, Chairman Nkio-Lui Council; Kunamyi Neimi, General Secretary Nkio-Lui Council and Dr Pauzieleubo, President NSU.

Since the resolution was an irrevocable and ex-post-facto resolution that is solely made to protect and preserve its land and the same has been reaffirmed continuously in every general meeting since its adoption to make people more cautious about the scrofulous practice of selling traditional land for selfish interests, it said.

However, it noted that “some self-styled leaders, individuals, and groups despite being given forewarning time and again knowingly violate the general public resolutions” while “buyers after knowing the public notice continue to equally indulge themselves in the same underhand activities.”

In this connection, Nkio-Lui Council cautioned and asks individuals and groups who purchased any plot/area of land within Nkio territorial jurisdiction to submit any available documents or sale deeds made between sellers and buyers to the Council Secretary Kunamyi on or before the September 30 to bring the issue to an “amicable solution.”

“Failing to comply with the council’s notice before the stipulated time frame any claims regarding selling or purchasing of land under Nkio jurisdiction shall be declared null and void,” it added.

The Council further resolved to completely prohibit hunting and poaching within Nkio jurisdiction during the breeding season, from March to November, every year starting from next year 2023.

However, it is completely proscribed for outsiders even on and off-season and perpetrators are duly punished, it added.

The house re-avowed to tenaciously protect the revered traditional land boundaries from any encroachers or infiltrators, and at the same time maintain mutual respect and peaceful coexistence with the neighboring villages,” the release added.
