DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 7 (MExN): Delegates from the Nagaland Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Branch, including the Speaker Sharingain Longkumer and Deputy Speaker S. Toiho Yeptho, have arrived in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, to participate in the 67th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC), which commenced on November 3. Secretary-in-Charge of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) Smt. Khruohituonuo Rio also joins them at this global event, one of the oldest and largest gatherings within the Commonwealth.
The CPA, established in 1911, represents over 180 national and sub-national legislatures across 53 Commonwealth nations and territories, fostering collaboration and parliamentary development. The theme for this year’s CPC is ‘Engage, Empower, Sustain: Charting the Course for Resilient Democracy,’ with various workshops and sessions aimed at discussing significant parliamentary challenges and solutions.
The 67th CPC will host eight learning and development workshops, alongside a World Café session focusing on “Solving contemporary challenges in the Commonwealth.” Additional sessions include four workshops under the 40th CPA Small Branches Conference and four more under the 8th Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) Conference. NLA Speaker Longkumer has been invited to speak at one of the conference workshops, underscoring Nagaland's engagement in global parliamentary dialogues.
The conference is scheduled to conclude on November 8, followed by a post-conference tour beginning November 9. During the tour, the Nagaland delegation is set to visit three different countries, promoting cross-cultural learning and international collaboration.
