NLA special assembly session resolution ‘demeaning,’ says RPP

Dimapur, December 27 (MExN): The Rising People’s Party on Monday said that parts of the resolutions adopted by members of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly on December 20 were “not only demeaning for themselves but crude and insensitive.”

Referring to point number 2 of the 5-point resolution wherein the house called for “an apology from the appropriate authority,” the RPP asked the MLAs if they could “clarify to the bereaved families of the Oting massacre as to whom you’re demanding an apology from.”

Terming it as “half-hearted, insensitive, meek and appalling,” it went on to say that the usage of the term “Appropriate authority” seemed to “convey both fear and selfishness.”

“The NLA represents the voices of an anguished people and at this hour of tragedy it should be speaking with firmness, strength and dignity but the uneasiness of the language adopted by our leaders presents the very disconcerting picture that they chose to protect their chairs and positions over humanity and justice. If our leaders cannot speak out against the perpetrators of the Oting massacre or against those who twist the truth in the Indian Parliament, then they too stand to be condemned,” the party stated.

It also maintained that the particular point “cancelled out the rest of the points and therefore the special session of the NLA was in essence meaningless.” Further stating that the NLA, by not pursuing judicial enquiry by a sitting judge of the High Court or Supreme Court, “may have made a monumental mistake,” the RPP said that the interim report of the SIT should be made public.
