NMDA urge members not to hike prices above MRP

Dimapur, May 31 (MExN): The Nagaland Medicine Dealers Association (NMDA) have appealed the state drugs control authority to keep a check on businesses dealing in medicines and surgical products without licenses and proper documentation.

The association’s joint secretary and media convenor Arijit Sharma issued a press release on Monday, stating that an unprecedented surge in demand of some crucial medicines, used in treating COVID patients has created a panic among the COVID patients and their families. In this regard, it urged all its members not to sell these COVID related medicines and medical and surgical equipments at rates that are higher than the maximum retail price (MRP).

“Please charge nominal to the patients and general public and consider it as a noble service. The NMDA does not want its members to indulge in any mal-practices or unethical activities leading to selling of these COVID related medicines and surgical items,” the release stated.

The association further informed that “no unauthorized person will be allowed to search or check any pharmacies in the name of surveillance and trying to harass any of its members.”It also urged the state Drug Control department to keep a check on unauthorised dealers and to take strict actions on them.

The NMDA meanwhile appreciated the efforts of the medicine wholesalers and retailers who are working day and night to ensure availability of medicines, especially of chronic diseases and live saving drugs, the release stated.
