On the occasion of world Environment Day, under the initiative New Monger Students Union (NMSU) more than 100 tree saplings of were planted in and around New Monger Village.
Speaking about the importance of World Environment day, Serichum Vice President, NMSU stated that World Environment day is celebrated as a way to raise awareness about things that affect the world and the environment.
He urged such and occasion raise awareness about our delicate environment and it is important things to do as it provides a chance for us to show what kinds of things we can do as individual to protect our environment.
Briefly expounding on why environment has become such a vital issue, Serichum maintained that it is very necessary to address the issues like wastage of and losses of food, increasing global warming, deforestation, pollution, industrialization, in order to control the negative environmental changes. He further added, “the celebration focuses on carbon neutrality, forest Management, managing green house effect, promoting bio-fuels production, use of hydro-power to produce electricity, encouraging people to use solar water heater, use of solar system, promoting coral reefs and mangroves restoration and other effectives of environment preservation.”
New Monger Students Union also expressed profound gratitude to Chumei Yanlem, District Soil Conservation Officer (DSCO), Kiphire for the help extended towards NMSU in organizing plantation drive.
