DIMAPUR, JANUARY 5 (MExN): The Working Committee (WC) Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs)has accused the Nagaland State BJP and its President, Temjen Imna Along, of “sabotaging” the peace talks between the group and the Government of India.
In a press statement, the WC NNPGs criticized the Nagaland State BJP President for his "anti-solution stance" and "evasive maneuver and non-committal attitude," and accused him of being "arrogant" and "devoid of any principle."
The WC also claimed that it had written an official letter to Along on November 9, 2022, requesting a meeting on "crucial matters," but had yet to receive a response. The statement said that the BJP Nagaland President was "responsible for misleading the Naga people and betraying BJP leadership in New Delhi." The WC said it would not allow him to represent the Nagas either in Kohima or in Delhi.
The statement went on to accuse the Nagaland State BJP of attempting to thwart the progress of Indo-Naga talks and playing "dirty tricks." The WC stated that it is the "messenger of the Naga people" and has negotiated with the Government of India in accordance with the desires and aspirations of the Naga people.
It expressed concern about individuals and groups who are working to sabotage the Naga solution, and warned that if elections are enforced in Nagaland against the people's demand for a negotiated political settlement, the Nagaland BJP will face a similar fate to the Congress party in 1998, which "promptly" lost the confidence of the Naga people after holding elections instead of seeking a solution.
The WC concluded by reiterating its stance that "solution, not election" is what the Naga tribes and civil societies desire. It urged the Government of India to respect the wishes of the Naga people and work towards an "honorable and acceptable negotiated political settlement."
