The State's Health and Family Welfare Department today informed that there are no COVID-19 cases in the State, while assuring the public that necessary measures are being taken in the preventive front.

2965 persons have been screened and only two people are under home quarantine while 108 are under surveillance. The Department also informed that out of the 73 foreign tourists who entered Nagaland, 70 have left while 3 remain.

"We are all working very hard. Prevention is the best means we have. We will be going aggressively in the awareness activities," said Principal Director, Dr Vizolie Suokhrie informing that almost every government department is now involved in the attempt to prevent the outbreak in Nagaland.

The Department continued to strongly stress on personal hygiene in the form of handwashing and abstinence from spitting in public places. "Spitting in public places needs to be stopped at the earliest," appealed the Department. In the awareness level, the department is working in collaboration with Rural development department where self help groups will be trained to spread awareness on COVID 19. Trainings for police personnel will be held which will be followed by setting up of screenings at each check point and entry point in Nagaland manned by the trained personnel.

66 isolation beds have been identified while ventilators are already in place in all the districts. It was informed there are currently 14 ventilators at place with plans to scale up.  Consultations with private practitioners/hospitals are already in place for accommodation of isolation beds. The Department noted that more beds will be accommodated and expanded if the situation arises. The Department has already identified isolated quarantine places at Khuzama and Chedema, while locations are also being identified in the rest of the districts, informed Dr Suokhrie.

On the return of Naga students from other States, the department stated that passengers travelling by flight will be screened at the airport. However, the Department has appealed the passengers travelling by railways to contact the department on their arrival via the helpline numbers.

Railway passengers and travelers by road continue to be a great challenge, according to the Department, with several entry and exit points which makes it difficult for identification.
