No resolution at March 8 meeting for proposed ‘unified tribal body’

Dimapur | March 8

Secrecy surrounded the meeting called by the eight Naga tribal bodies of Nagaland on March 8. The meeting was called to discuss issues related to the proposed formation of a Naga tribal body, which is imagined as one exclusively for the Nagas of Nagaland.

The meeting, which was held at the Dimapur Tourist Lodge conference hall, was off limits to the media. It reportedly had delegates from all the 8 tribal bodies — Angami Public Organisation (APO), Ao Senden, Chakhesang Public Organisation, Lotha Hoho, Pochury Hoho, Rengma Hoho,  Sumi Hoho and the Nagaland Zeliang People’s Organisation (NZPO); and also from the Nagaland Tribes Council.

The delegates seemed to have pledged not to divulge any information about the meeting which lasted around three hours.

“Let me not say anything at this juncture,” was the reply from the APO President, Razouvotuo Chatsu, who is the ‘Sessional Chairman,’ when prodded for comment as he emerged from the meeting hall. The information he divulged was confined to attendance by delegates from all the 8 aforementioned tribes.

CPO President, Vezühü Keyho termed the meeting as “positive” only to add, “Outcome will be good. Let me not go further.”
Another delegate, GH Ramlia of the NZPO, who was prodded for comment, said that the discussion centred on the formation of a “unified Naga apex body,” while no resolution was adopted.

Other sources said that the APO, CPO, Ao Senden and Sumi Hoho were represented by their Presidents, while the remaining bodies sent representatives. It could not be ascertained if the controversy over the alleged sidelining of the NTC is resolved already.
