DIMAPUR, AUGUST 11 (MExN): Expressing strong opposition over the rally undertaken by a section of students on the “instigation” of the All Assam Students Union (AASU), reportedly inside Naga-inhabited Aghunaqa area, Nagaland on August 6, with banners and placards that displayed provocative wordings like “Go back, Nagas”, “We will give our blood, not land”, etc, the Western Sumi Youth Front today warned AASU for instigating the non-Assamese people living in the border areas to participate in the unwarranted rally.
“The youth front blames the Assam Government and the neutral forces deployed in the vicinity for deliberately allowing the AASU-sponsored rally against the Nagas,” a press release stated. “Moreover, the question of how the Assam Government allowed such a rally to be organized right under its nose against the Nagas is a mockery of Article 12 and 13 of the 16 Point Agreement between the Government of India and the State of Nagaland.”
Drawing to mind the intact history of cordial relationship and peaceful co-existence between the Ahoms and the Nagas, the release stated: “Therefore to have any peaceful negotiation or settlement with the Ahoms is not a problem for the Nagas but the question of settlement between the Nagas and the non-Ahoms an Assam-sponsored illegal immigrants is not possible under any circumstances whatsoever.”
The youth front has vehemently warned the AASU it “shall not take an inch of what is not ours but neither shall we give an inch of what is ours. We are ready to protect our rights with every possible means and sources.”
All Sumi youths in the border areas have been informed to be alert and to be prepared for any eventuality that may arise from the ongoing issue.
“Taking all these points into consideration, the youth front cautions the Central Government to intervene at the earliest or withdraw all neutral forces which are pro-Assam deployed in the border areas and allow the youth front to take its own course of action as the Assam Government has given unbridled power to the AASU to involve in the border issue by sowing seeds of hatred without any provocation from the Nagas.”
“In the event of any untoward incidents or consequences, the Central Government, the Assam State Government and the AASU shall be held solely responsible and shall be answerable to one and all concerned.”
