Public rally on December 16
Tuensang, December 14 (MExN): The Eastern Naga people have declared ‘non-cooperation’ with the Indian security forces until their demands are fulfilled and justice is delivered to the victims of the Oting killings.
As part of the non-cooperation movement, the people of ENPO areas which include includes Mon, Tuensang, Longleng, Kiphire and Noklak districts, have resolved to “abstain from any National celebrations, or such activities; Non-participation in Army civic programmes; Non-attendance to any of their official invitations, and not to allow any recruitment drive within Eastern Nagaland area.”
According to a press release from the Eastern Nagaland People's Organisation (ENPO) media cell, a decision to this effect was unanimously taken during a crucial joint consultative meeting of all Eastern Nagaland civil societies at Longleng on Tuesday.
The release highlighted three key demands—The Indian Security Forces involved in the killings should be booked under relevant laws of the country and should be brought under Civil Court for trial; withdrawal of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s ‘self defence’ statement in the parliament; and repeal of the ‘draconian’ Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), 1958 from the entire North Eastern States.
The release also stated that a public rally would be held in all the tribal head quarters on December 16 to protest the killings and demand for justice. The meeting also resolved to write to the State Government to immediately set up the Nagaland State Human Rights Commission.
Additionally, it said that December 4 and 5 would be observed as ‘Black Day’ in the entire ENPO jurisdiction.
