The delegate apprised the Prime Minister on the need to resolve the Naga political problem within time frame period. “35 years of stalemate Shillong Accord, 14 years of negotiation without conclusion, 10 years of Ceasefire Agreement without opening talk do not make sense”, stated the NPCC press note. The delegate expressed the need for “transparency in the dialogue so as to give opportunity to stakeholders to react constructively”.
UPA ready to go extra mile on Naga political issue
According to the NPCC, the Prime Minister was very receptive to the suggestions and gave patient hearing to the delegate. Prime Minister reacted, saying this is a unique opportunity for Nagas to resolve the political problem. UPA is ready to go extra mile to resolve the issue. He assured the delegate of positive actions at the earliest.
Nagaland Congress is ‘national in outlook and regional in content’
Earlier on 20th June 2011, the NPCC & CLP team had also met Luizinho Faleiro, CWC Member & General Secretary in charge of Nagaland in Goa Niwas, New Delhi. The delegate of NPCC while reacting to revocation order has submitted the Executive Committees resolution reaffirming the expulsion order of I. Imkong. The delegate expressed that NPCC Executive Committee has functional autonomy unlike other Congress Units in the nation. The delegate brought to his notice that Nagaland State is born out of 16-point agreement and functions under safe-guards provided in the constitution. Secondly, it was communicated that the NPCC was born out of agreement between late Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India and the delegate of Nagaland Nationalist Organization (NNO) reached in 1976.
“It functions under its own constitution in the spirit of national in outlook and regional in content as was agreed upon”, reminded the NPCC while adding that it has its own historical credits for pioneering the state till today. “AICC is aware of that and we do not need to repeat it.
However, in times of situation like this, when the very fundamental and safe-guard provisions are undermined by commission or omission, we are pressed to reiterate and defend it”, stated the press note.
Further, it stated that when I. Imkong is “now unattached Member in the Nagaland State Assembly and is no more Congress CLP member, revocation is meaningless”. “I. Imkong has become an old associate and NPCC leaders does not wish to embarrass him again as he has already his share of problems in his own village”, stated the press note. According to the NPCC press note, in his “rebuttal note he had charged more that 15 senior Congress leaders of the state” and that he did not even spare the Chowkidar of the Congress Bhavan. “This thoroughly exposed his inner mind. It was unpleasant to have taken the extreme action but it was better for all that way as it would be impossible for him to live confronting all senior leaders”, the NPCC stated to the Central leaders.
