NPF responds on Manipur poll outcome, integration & eastern Nagaland
Dimapur, March 9 (MExN): The Naga People’s Front (NPF) responded to the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee’s (NPCC) calling the NPF’s 4-seat win in the Manipur polls as a reflection of opposition to integration. The Media cell of the NPF issued a note today.
“The party contested in 12 seats and won in 4 seats despite entering the fray for the first time. Our entry into the electoral process was very much behind all other parties and candidates and adversaries of the Nagas laid out all possible hurdles and challenges not only to disturb our venture and even made all out attempts to block our entry into another State,” the NPF said.
The party says that Congress has no authority “or morale right” to comment on the performance of others ‘when it has been rejected in its own state in consecutive elections since 2003.’ The NPCC was “rejected” by the Naga people in two assembly elections of 2003 and 2008 and its defeat in the Lok Sabha elections speaks volumes, the regional party says. “Even in its own internal elections, the NPCC members resorted to violence, intimidations, stone pelting against each other and its observers from the Centre had to run for cover in the heart of the State capital.”
When the opposition itself is in disarray, the NPF said “what morale authority do they have to comment on the performance of a regional Naga party who has just won 4 seats in another State.”
Also, the NPF reiterated that it continues to stand for integration of all contiguous Naga areas “as desired by the Nagas even in the 16 Points Agreement, where the feeling for integration was mentioned in clause 13 of the agreement.” The Nagaland Legislative Assembly has also adopted four unanimous resolutions in support of integration of Naga areas, the Media cell said.
“The NPF is committed to shout at the top of its voice in the interest of all Nagas and will continue to do so. But the Congress is merely reiterating its political vision and agenda of going against the desire of the Nagas. The NPCC continues to voice the contents of the Bedrock of Naga Society which was authored by its leader and CWC Member, SC Jamir and whose brother is still NPCC president.”
The NPF also responded to Congress leader K Therie. “Having achieved the rare distinction of a hat-trick of defeats within a span of few months, by losing the general elections of 2008, followed by the Rajya Sabha election followed by the assembly bye-elections, he has the distinction of being a completely rejected politician,” the NPF asserted.
The regional party asserted that Therie is a “negative leader who has negative intensions with the capability of destroying good works of others.” “He is a destroyer, not a builder. Can he or the NPCC spell out how much they have done for the eastern Nagas when they had the opportunity to do so?” the NPF stated. “Can they give in black and white what they have done for integration of Nagas?” it stated adding that the “defenders and authors of the bedrock stand exposed once again”. “Therie and the Congress do not know what is going on as they have lost touch with the people and we do not need to explain what we are doing, or have done as the people know best”.
