NPCC urges UDA govt to address ENPO’s grievances

Dimapur, December 7 (MExN): The NPCC on Wednesday stated that the state of Nagaland is heading towards an ‘unknown future’ under the NDPP, BJP and NPF alliance without knowing whether elections would be held or not.

According to a press release from NPCC President K Therie, some have pinned their hopes on settlement of the Indo-Naga Peace Talks with the intensive negotiation since September 2022. While they expect President’s Rule to implement the agreed political solution, “We do not know what the new features of the negotiations are. The state Government has never sat seriously with the negotiating teams to evolve agenda for amicable settlement,” the Party President underscored.

He went on to say that the State Government should be in the know of the future of Nagaland. “The people want them to evolve a peaceful and amicable agenda with NSCN (IM) under the Framework Agreement for Nagaland has agreed in principle with the Working Committee’s Agreed Position.”

In connection with the Eastern Naga People’s Organisation (ENPO) demand for ‘Frontier Nagaland’ state, Therie also said that the “inner understanding” between Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the ENPO. It is anybody’s guess that voting for BJP will be a factor in consideration of the demand, he added.

Stating that the NPF, NDPP and BJP have had no commitment to uphold the integrity of the State, Therie accused them of ignoring the ENPO and held the three parties responsible for driving the ENPO further in the demand for Frontier Nagaland state. “They did not have a heart to address the grievances. They have insulted ENPO by putting the onus on the Centre. This would be understood as clearance to push harder,” Therie said while appealing to the UDA to talk with ENPO and address their grievances.

“They have no vision of our future. They have lost the courage to stand up for the people. Perhaps it is because of the fear for funding insurgents and unknown sources of income in their bank accounts. They only want protection from BJP Government. The 12 BJP MLAs virtually ruled for five years because of this fear,” he added.

The integrity of Nagaland State is the theme of Congress, he said while maintaining that the State Government “has allowed GoI to play with the future of the people of Nagaland for too long.”
