NPCC welcomes Union MSME Ministry’s response on Nagaland MP's concerns

Kohima, April 17 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has expressed appreciation for what it termed as the ‘positive response’ from the Union Minister of State for Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), and Labour & Employment, Shobha Karandlaje, on facilitating MSME development in the North East.

As per the NPCC, the response came following the efforts of Nagaland’s lone Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), S Supongmeren Jamir, who raised the issue during the Zero Hour discussion in the Lok Sabha on February 11, 2025.

During the discussion, Jamir reportedly urged the Union Government to establish full-fledged office spaces and appoint adequate officers at the MSME-Development and Facilitation Offices (DFOs) in the North Eastern Region (NER), including Nagaland.

In response, the Ministry acknowledged the concern and assured that 11 Deputy Directors, recently promoted to the Joint Director level, would soon be posted.

Additionally, the recruitment process for Assistant Director Grade-I and Grade-II is underway through the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), with new officers expected to join by June 2025, the NPCC release said.

The Ministry further highlighted its intention to strengthen the MSME DFOs in the North East by deploying these promoted and newly recruited officers, aiming to boost the MSME ecosystem in the region, it added.

The NPCC extends its gratitude to S Jamir for his ongoing efforts to address the developmental needs of the region at the national level and for the prompt intervention by the Ministry.

It also called for the assurance to be implemented in a time-bound manner, ensuring the long-overdue attention and support for the MSME infrastructure in Nagaland and the North East.
