Dimapur, July 4 (MExN): The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has refuted allegations that the State government mismanaged Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) enough to land the institution in disgrace as it is now.
The NPF issued a press release today in response to the charge of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee’s (NPCC) against the NPF-led Nagaland government. The NPF however did not mention specifics of corruption or mismanagement in the DMC for which State agency is under scrutiny.
The NPF’s media cell denounced what it said is the “totally fabricated and false allegations” of the Congress with which the opposition demanded dismissal the State government. In fact, in the explanation of the NPF, the Congress is “obviously jealous.”
“Already a State Vigilance Commission inquiry into the reported irregularities of the DMC and an independent investigation is underway. This investigation will reveal the real picture of the issue and it will also reveal whether the allegations are politically motivated by unscrupulous elements.
If indeed there are any irregularities the law will take its own course without any interference,” the NPF said. According to the regional party, demanding the dismissal of a “mandated and democratic government on fabricated allegations in a civic body by a national party shows that the Congress leadership in Nagaland has become intellectually defunct and unreasonable.”
The party claimed further that the State government “followed the proper rules and procedures with regard to the administration of the municipal councils and civic bodies and at no point of time have the government or the department concerned deviated from the laid down rules.”
Asserting that the NPF-led Democratic Alliance of Nagaland Government “is indeed a popular government that enjoys the mandate of the people,” the NPF’s media cell went so far as to claim that “it has succeeded in bringing positive changes, development and progress to Nagaland.” The NPF explains: ‘The present ruling government has taken Nagaland and the people into an era of positive growth from a period of Congress rule that was marked by stagnation where there was a total lack of vision but a straight forward policy to doing everything possible to keep and control power by a select few and a single family.’
The ruling party has no doubt that the Congress is “obviously jealous of these developments and it has no option but to continue to fire all types of false allegations without any semblance of responsibility.”
If the Congress wants to convince the people, the regional party stated, “It is possible only through the process of working for the people and not by providing lip service.”
The Congress party’s “past failures and the manner” have been “corrected” by the successive DAN governments “by putting the State back towards the path of advancement,” the NPF party claimed. “… (It) is making the Congress frustrated and desperate.”
