Kohima, October 1 (MExN): The Naga People's Front (NPF) Elders Council observed the 36th United Nations International Day of Older Persons at the Kohima Division conference hall on October 1.
Speaking as the main speaker, NPF Working President H Chuba Chang said, "A society that does not respect its elders has no future." He said age should not be a barrier and that the mind should remain fresh, while recognising the contributions of elders as "builders of present society." Chang said older persons should not be discouraged from contributing to society and stated that "good things do not happen by strength but by wisdom." He urged elders to continue contributing towards building a better society.
NPF Senior Vice President and Central Office Bearer in-charge Kruzakie said the occasion was meant to recognise the contributions of elders to society. He appreciated NPF President and Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio for recognising the elders and said they preserve the rich heritage and culture of the Nagas and pass it on to successive generations.
"The modern generation should know and appreciate the contributions of the older generation," he said, adding that elders had collectively contributed to building society. He urged them to share their wisdom for the growth and prosperity of the party and society, stating that "the way we treat our elders reflects our society."
NPF Vice President (Admin) Akho Leyri also stressed the contribution of elders towards the growth of the party and called upon members to build the Elders Council to greater heights.
The programme was chaired by Elders Council Chairman Nungsangninba. Vice Chairman P Shing Khiam delivered the welcome address, while Treasurer Suosahie Sachu invoked God's blessings and Secretary T Yangyam Phom proposed the vote of thanks. Kepemu Jemu recorded the programme.
