The Naga People's Front (NPF) Wokha Division on June 10 held a public meeting at the VDBs and WDVCC Hall, Tsumang B, to mobilise support for its candidate, Ar Aling Lotha, ahead of the Urban Local Body (ULB) bye-election for the Wokha Town Council (WTC) Ward No. 8.
The meeting was attended by party leaders, workers and residents of the ward, including NPF Secretary General Achumbemo Kikon, Advisor and MLA Mhathung Yanthan, MLA Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe and Advisor Dr Chumben Murry.
Addressing the gathering, Ar Aling Lotha thanked party leaders and workers for reposing faith in him by awarding the party ticket and appealed to voters for their support. He said that, if elected, he would work for the welfare and development of the ward while contributing his professional expertise as an architect towards improved town planning.
Party leaders highlighted the importance of the forthcoming by-election and urged voters to support the NPF candidate. Achumbemo Kikon said the party's strength lies in its grassroots base and noted that the candidate had been selected after careful consideration. He also stressed the role of regional parties in safeguarding the interests of the people.
Dr Chumben Murry encouraged greater participation of youth in politics and emphasised the need for unity in advancing the development of Wokha town. Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe expressed confidence in the party's prospects in the election, while Mhathung Yanthan called on residents to support a long-term vision for town development through proper planning and leadership.
The programme was chaired by NPF Wokha Division president L Meribemo Kinghen, while Dr T Thungchibemo Humtsoe delivered the keynote address. Short speeches were also delivered by WTC chairperson Myingthungo Kikon and other party leaders.
The meeting concluded with an appeal to voters to uphold democratic values and participate peacefully in the upcoming ULB by-election.
