NPF says NPCC is ‘anti-Naga’

Dimapur, March 11 (MExN): The Naga People’s Front (NPF) continues to slug out at the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) even as counter-statements continue to pile over issues revolving around the Manipur state polls and “Naga integration.” The Media bureau of the NPF issued another rejoinder today saying that the NPCC is “anti-people.”

“The NPF reiterates the fact that the NPCC has been rejected by the people in all aspects. Trying to twist figures and statistics to mislead the people will have no impact as the truth is that the NPCC has completely lost touch with the people,” the ruling party stated.

According to the NPF, the NPCC “is very clear on its own electoral defeats.” The Congress won 21 seats in 2003 elections and 23 seats in 2008 elections and prior to 2003 elections the Congress regime was “all powerful and the entire Government machinery was used to go against the NPF led DAN alliance,” the NPF said. “But despite such tactics, the Congress won only 21 seats, and in 39 seats, the people rejected the Congress and elected the DAN which was pre-poll alliance. In 2008, the undemocratic imposition of president’s rule gave the NPCC the opportunity to totally misuse the government machinery against the DAN; however, they were defeated and rejected in 37 seats.”

In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, NPF release said, the NPF candidate polled more than sixty nine percent of the votes winning with a margin of more than 4,52,000 votes. “When free and fair elections are held the true percentages are revealed. Is this not rejection of the NPCC by the electorate? Cannot they understand this simple percentage?”

With regard to four members joining the NPF, the party said the Congress “needs to be told that they never crossed the floor nor changed their party colour.” They resigned as MLAs and faced fresh mandate; they did not defect but rather they resigned, the NPF said.

The NPF also reiterated that “only a regional party like the NPF understands the problems and issues of a State like Nagaland, unlike the Congress which is ruled and commanded by others in far away Delhi practicing alien culture.” Under the NPF, the party said, the “people will get the leaders they want and the problems that are directly related to the people will be addressed by the people’s leaders.” A perfect example of the Congress culture is the politics of Manipur, the regional party said, “where the Congress won comfortably but is unable to decide on who to lead the State.”

The people and the grass roots have no role or say as all prominent leaders have rushed to Delhi to fight for a chair located in Imphal, the NPF quipped.

The regional party said the NPCC cannot expect to win the confidence of the people in Nagaland “when its house is divided not just politically but their internal divisions have spread on to the streets with violence and intimidations.” ‘The NPCC should not hope to fool the Nagas with their concocted statements. The people are much smarter than they think,’ the party’s Media cell said.

Further, the party said the NPCC has also “exposed itself once again and belittled the entire Nagas in its statement issued by PCC member, S Seyie, wherein it endorsed the statement that ‘Nagaland is a liability with nil revenue, and entirely dependent on Delhi, has no resources, expertise, professional, technical competence and machinery to manage its own affairs, yet it encroached upon others territorial integrity.’

“Is this not an insult each and every capable Naga? Such is the attitude and principle of the NPCC. The people are the best judge,” the Media bureau added.
