Dimapur, April 17 (MExN): Neingulo Krome, Secretary General of the Naga Peoples' Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR), was allegedly denied boarding on a flight to Kathmandu, Nepal, on April 7 by Indian immigration authorities.
The authorities provided no formal legal justification for the denial, and Krome’s passport was reportedly canceled, effectively restricting his right to travel, maintained statements received condemning the action.
This is reportedly the second such incident after a similar event in 2020, when Krome was also barred from traveling abroad.
These actions have drawn strong condemnation from various organizations, including the Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP), the Global Naga Forum, and the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO). The NSCN (IM) also decried the action.
They also raised concerns over the broader implications for indigenous rights defenders and civil society participation in India.
