NPWD (R&B) refutes report of ‘manhandling’ by contractor

Kohima, June 2 (MExN): The Nagaland Public Works Department (Road & Bridges) has refuted the report where a contractor had allegedly manhandled and abused area leaders and people on April 29.

In a press release, Engineer-in-Chief NPWD, Er Kahuli Sema stated that on April 29, the Kamaleah Area Village Councils submitted the ultimatum pertaining to construction of road from Lephori to Molhe camp (130 pillars) in the Office Chamber of the Chief Engineer PWD (R&B) during office hour. The ultimatum was submitted by one individual on behalf of the Kamaleah Area Village Councils (KAVC).

She stated that on that particular evening, the Contractor, Lhuosakuolie Metha was called to attend the office to discuss a matter pertaining to PMGSY Works at around 7:00 pm since officers of the PNIGSY Cells were going out of station the next day.

Coincidentally, Er Kahuli said that the KAVC members came to the office around 7:00 pm to deliberate on the ultimatum citing that they could not meet her the previous day as she was not present in the Office. In the course of discussion, Metha arrived in the office chamber and he being the contractor, also joined the discussion, she added.

According to her, the contractor highlighted the problems he was facing in execution of the three works and the extra effort he is taking to complete the works. He also said that “the area leaders/public has instead of appreciating the extra efforts he is putting into the works, been constantly/regularly pointing out all minor defects/errors of his works which is leading to uncalled for mental tension and harassment for him.”

Stating that “the contractor manhandling/abusing and threatening the area leaders/area people in my Office Chamber on April 29, 2022 did not happen in my presence” she added, “also, I am not aware of the Contractor calling some youths to the Office.”
