NSA reiterates position on Indo-Naga issue

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 13 (MExN): In view of the October 15 consultative meeting called by the Nagaland State Government on the Naga political issue, the Naga Scholars’ Association has reiterated its position to the Naga political negotiators and the Naga people.

A press release from the NSA President, Dr Zuchamo Yanthan and General Secretary, Dr Lungthuiyang Riamei said that the Naga political issue is a geo-political and national issue for self-determination; and therefore, whichever political organization negotiates and decides for settlement should keep abreast the “long cherished goal of the Naga nation, which the Nagas have struggled for.”

It further stated that the agreement should incorporate the “core elements of Naga political national identity, particularly, Naga flag, Naga constitution, and territorial integration with national character.”

The NSA also said that the agreement should “accord Nagalim with legislative, executive, judicial and financial powers outside the purview of the Constitution of India.” “The Naga political groups should make utmost effort to unite in the Naga national principle/goal for self-determination,” it added.

The association also called upon Naga legislators to seriously work to facilitate the process of uniting the Naga national political groups to pave way for realising the desired aspiration.

“It is the bounden responsibility of the Naga people at large to contribute to the strengthening of the negotiation to achieve the Naga aspiration. The Naga people must take collective responsibility today to decide the fate of the Nagas,” the NSA added.
