
Dimapur, January 7 (MExN): A joint council meeting comprising the Council of Kilonsers (Cabinet), Tatars, Regional authorities, military wing, secretariat staff as well as workers of the NSCN-K (Khango) has resolved to impeach its President Khango Konyak.
According to a press release issued by through its MIP on January 6, the entire house comprising ‘more than 90% majority’ resolved to impeach Konyak “under Article 27 for repeated acceptance of bribe and violation of the constitutional norms of article 29.”
While reiterating a resolution adopted during an ‘emergency meeting’ on January 5 which overturned the impeachment of its General Secretary, Isak Sumi on January 4, the release stated that Konyak’s impeachment was in consonance with the endorsement of the Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups (WC, NNPGs).
The Vice President Luyanba Yimkhiung shall take charge as the acting President until further decisions, it added.
Further, the release which was appended by Kilo Kilonser Col (retired) T Athrong, NTH Speaker Kughakhu Zhimo, and Cabinet Secretary Hokashe Muru, stated that the group would “continue to pursue honourable Naga political situation under the NNPGs’ banner” under the leadership of Luyanba Yimkhiung and Isak Sumi.
Sumi will remain “the legitimate representative of the NSCN/GPRN as the Co-Convenor of the WC, NNPG,” it stated, adding that “the incumbent leadership and the government shall continue to uphold ceasefire with the Government of India and its paraphernalia.”
According to the release, the measure was initiated “in order to restore the sanctity of the NSCN/GPRN and sue to noncompliance callous and belligerent attitude and action of the former President and the conspirators (Sic).”
