Dimapur, September 18 (MExN): The NSCN (K) today issued a cautioning against “impostors” using the name of the organisation to collect money from businesses and officials of the Nagaland state government. As per a press release from the NSCN (K), it has taken note of “heightened extorting and other criminal activities especially in and around Kohima and Dimapur by impostors using the forged credentials of NSCN/GPRN.”
In this connection, it released the names of three individuals, who it stated were “criminal elements” and that they should not be entertained under any circumstances. It also asked that prompt report be given to “appropriate authorities” in the event they surface in public.
First in the list of names was one Imti Ao alias Wati, who the release said claims to be a “Central Council Member (CCM)” of the NSCN (K) and has been duping Nagaland state government officials. Stating that there is no such person “assigned with financial authority for Kohima or Dimapur Districts or any other Districts of Nagaland State,” the release said that the “Army command deployed in the specified area is empowered to initiate inquiry” and disciplinary action “if the identity and crime of the culprit is confirmed.”
The second was one Matho Angami, who the release claimed hails from Bara Basti, Kohima. It alleged that the said person alongwith two-three youths has been visiting “various offices in Kohima” seeking tax in the name of the NSCN (K). Terming the person as “bogus,” the release added, “any action deemed fit be taken and also NSCN/GPRN shall not accept account of any payment made to these impostors.”
Third in the list was one Mongzar Sangtam. The release said that the said person has no affiliation with the NSCN (K) in any capacity. Stating that the individual is engaging in monetary demands in the name of the NSCN (K) in Kohima, Dimapur, Kiphire and Tuensang, the release asked that any transaction with the person be ceased and reported immediately.
It further stated that there has been an increase in extortion activities in Dimapur and Kohima by “unauthorized individuals and groups,” including defectors etc.
In this regard, the release said, “To avoid confusion, unnecessary losses and harassment, no unusual or suspicious claimants be entertained no more unless authenticated from the appropriate GPRN authority.”
