The Nagas were made to believe in the innocence and untainted reputation of Kholi Konyak for more than three decades until the exposure of his true nature finally, when he commandeered the usurp of Presidential Office from His Excellency SS. Khaplang. Except the NSCN-IM, who on several occasions in the past dared to indict Kholi Konyak of ordering the Konyak boys to launch attack on CHQ where several hundred innocent and patriot Tangkhuls (Naga Army/soldiers) were massacred. Th.Muivah managed to escape the butchery by a hair breadth. This unprovoked and unilateral offensive of Kholi Konyak the then Army Chief caused the irreparable split of NSCN and unnecessary loss of several hundreds of dedicated Naga National workers in the year 1988 and the successive decades that followed were terrible fratricides among the Naga brothers/sisters.
Kholi Konyak’s delusional memory made him to boldly proclaim himself as peace-maker and always maintained that he has nothing to do with blood spills, but the fact that he himself was the Chief commander and only by his order did the konyak soldiers massacred the Tangkhuls and other Nagas who opted to follow Muivah stands as testimony to every of his heinous crimes.
It is beyond belief or any logical thinking that Konyak soldiers might have acted contrary to Kholi’s order. Kholi’s deep hatred and blood thirst against Tangkhuls and Muivah followers, his merciless execution and coup de tat in 1988 had ever been the reasons why he has been feared and remained immune from any Konyaks to challenge his dictatorial military hold over his people. The demonic and horrific/horrors associated with his martial career and fear of vengeance forced him to cling on to the Army Chief’s office far beyond his eligibility and fitness, since 1988 till June 7 2011. Kholi’s greed and lust for power is also embarrassingly clear.
His tacit gestures of beckoning others to regard him as collective leader by assuming himself as Vice-President/Vice-Chairman of NSCN/GPRN though never elected either formally or in formally, his unrelenting dictatorial hold on C-in-C of the Naga Army for more than three decades despite his highly advanced age (nearing 90 years).
Stiff opposition to any move to elect the vacant Vice-President so that he would enjoy dual-political as well as military authority etc are the precise diabolic characters of a man who proclaim peace on one hand and wield Gun on the other. Some surviving contemporaries of Kholi would suffice the accounts, however certain undeniable evidences which the Konyaks themselves can still testify against Kholi needed to be produced here.
The lone Konyak Kilonser during the crisis time, Peyau Konyak who opted to follow Muivah was executed by Kholi, when the then Konyak Region Secretary Wongjai Konyak accused Kholi to take the responsibility of massacre and also objected to Kholi’s autocratic manner of liquidating Tangkhul brothers by sending more than 140 Armed Konyak boys under his command to attack CHQ, the unfortunate Wongjai was also executed by Kholi.
When all these terror came to pass and Isak Swu and Muivah formed another NSCN, Kholi Konyak chose to take refuge in the Jungles of Burma away from the questioning eyes of the Nagas for the last 30 to 40 years, claimed innocence and blamed SS. Khaplang, Th. Muivah, Isak Swu etc for the entire debacle.
Finally when realization dawned on the Nagas of the futility of internecine bloodsheds and peace and reconciliation became very vocal, Kholi silently sneaked into Nagaland hoping that his terrible crimes may be forgiven and forgotten by Nagas clamor for peace.
The glaring deviousness and deceptive mastery of Kholi has also been revealed recently on the most cunning manner through which he was made to be elected President. To portray himself as non-envious to power and authority and to avoid culpability in the event of plans going awry or backfires, he silently left for Tobu but constantly monitored the situation by instructing Kitovi Zhimomi over telephones from Tobu.
To the normal eye, SS. Khaplang’s impeachment appears to have been prompted without Kholi konyak’s knowledge or even his election to the Chairman/President without his consent(since he was intentionally absent) so that as usual his deceptive immaculate image as clean and innocent would be convincing to the Nagas.
Only when he was elected President in absentia and situation restored, Kholi Konyak like a venomous old serpent slithered back to Khehoi camp and as if shocked and dumbfounded but beaming from inside assumed the Presidential Office, what a tricky old devil?
It is also despising indeed to witness that when Konyak National workers refused to support him and started declaring loyalty to NSCN/GPRN led by SS. Khaplang, similar rejection of Kholi led Khehoi camp started pouring out from every nook and corner of Naga country that obviously shook Kholi to his senses, he started to blame the Sumis and Kitovi of forcibly electing him the President without his prior approval and began spreading the propaganda that he is not at all desirous of Presidential office.
Kholi Konyak as a last resort to save himself from disgrace even contemplated to escape to Tobu again, dis-own Khehoi camp and either try to reconcile with SS. Khaplang or retire peacefully so that entire blame would be hurled upon the Sumi workers led by Kitovi Zhimomi. Such is an old ugly cunning devil speaking peace and attempting to reconcile with arch rivals Isak and Muivah with a delusional hope that his blood stained hands would finally be whitewashed and crimes forgiven.
