DImapur | November 23
In what was described as a “significant and a historic development and with a view to end bloodshed and fratricidal killing that has shed darkness all over Nagaland for decades, the two warring factions of the NSCN having decided to unify”, a brief declaration stated signed by C. Singson, a Kilonser in the NSCN (K) and Azheto Chophy, a Kilonser in the NSCN (IM). Significantly, the declaration was however signed by the two leaders without naming the factions that they represented.
“The two warring factions of NSCN having decided to unify, declares its unification to be under “a single banner of NSCN/GPRN on this day the 23rd November, 2007 at Hovishe village under Niuland, UT-I”, stated the declaration.
Today’s development which took place at Hovishe village under Niuland, was reportedly hosted by the Western Sumi Hoho to foster better understanding among the national workers and bring about unity. The “unification meeting” was reportedly attended by sixteen top leaders of the NSCN (IM) at the level of Tatars, Kilonsers and Deputy Kilonsers. The NSCN (K) was represented by around three senior Kilonsers, it was disclosed.
Responding to a query on the development, NSCN (K) Deputy Kilonser Wangtin Naga said no ‘contacts’ have been received so far from “those from Dimapur and Kohima.” However, he said that if there has to be unification of any sort between the two factions, then it cannot be by a section or a community from either side. “How can we express unification by a single tribe, big or small” said Wangtin adding that a matter as significant as unification would have been discussed by the council of kilonsers if at all. He informed that the NSCN (K) council of Kilonsers has not discussed any such matter.
“I don’t know”, Wangtin said when queried on the reports of the “unification.” The Deputy Kilonser said that the recent happenings are “sudden development” and “I don’t know, we are trying to contact our kilonsers or cadres” in Dimapur or Kohima. He also added that the NSCN (K) command in Mon is not aware of the development and that contacts are being made. An official of the Western Sumi Hoho also said that the declaration was basically the “only point discussed at the meeting.”
