NSCW appeals to ensure women's safety in Nagaland

Dimapur, November 4 (MExN): In the light of recent spate of crime against women, Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW), Chairperson, Khrienuo Tachü met with Dimapur district administration and law enforcement agencies on November 3 to raise the issue of women’s safety in Nagaland.

The Commission in a press release stated that the purpose of NSCW’s visit was to interact with the concerned authorities seeking their opinions and suggestions so as to come up with some important steps and measures to prevent crime against women, and prioritise women’s security issue.

NSCW took note of the comments and suggestions of the district authorities to ramp up its effort to ensure a safe environment for women in the state, it added.

Addressing the increase of crime against women, Chairperson NSCW Khrienuo concurred with the district administration and law enforcement agencies that mass awareness and sensitisation programmes with regard to women’s safety needs to happen at the grassroot level, and that it will take the collective effort of the society.

The chairperson said that a strategic and coordinated effort of various stakeholders like the district administration, law enforcement agencies, churches, NGOs and tribal bodies can better the safety and protection of women in the state.
