Stresses women’s rights and nutrition
Peren, October 17 (MExN): An awareness programme on Poshan Maah was organised in Peren district to promote the importance of nutrition and collective efforts in fostering a healthier and more informed society through the POSHAN initiatives.
The event was organised by the Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) with support from the National Commission for Women (NCW) and in collaboration with the Zeliangrong Mipui Organization (ZMO) at the St Xavier Church Jubilee Hall, Jalukie, Peren District on October 17.
In her address, NSCW Chairperson W Nginyeih Konyak highlighted the commission's role in safeguarding and promoting the rights and welfare of women across Nagaland.
She described Poshan Maah as a month-long campaign aimed at encouraging healthy nutrition among women and promoting awareness on balanced dietary habits for overall well-being.
Konyak urged women to raise their voices against violence and to exercise their rights with confidence, reinforcing the collective responsibility to build a safer and more equitable society. She highlighted the initiatives undertaken by the NCW to create state-wide awareness. She encouraged the public to avail the facility of the Free Legal Aid Cell, of the Commission, which can be contacted at any time.
Hiazu Meru, NCS, Deputy Commissioner of Peren District, emphasised the importance of the Poshan Abhiyaan programme and shared success stories of Anganwadi workers in Tening and Nsong centres.
He highlighted their efforts in house-to-house visits, storytelling, maintaining nutri-gardens, and promoting men's and community participation in nutrition initiatives.
The Deputy Commissioner also spoke about the 'Viksit Bharat' initiative, envisioning India as a developed nation by 2047.
A technical session featured talks on ‘Early Childhood Care and Education’ by teacher Reguizeule Ndang, ‘Infant and Young Child Feeding Practices’ by CDPO R Chirhotshu Nyusou, and ‘Legal Rights’ by Asuni from the Sakhi-One Stop Centre.
The event was chaired by NSCW Member Akokla Longchar, while ZMO President Apeuna Iheilung delivered the introductory note.
