NSF extends support against illegal police appointments

DIMAPUR OCT 20 (MExN): Taking a serious view of alleged anomalies and irregularities in the appointment of personnel in the Police department, the Naga Students Federation (NSF) has extended its moral support to the Nagaland Police Service Association (NPSA) in the latter’s fight against favoritism and nepotism.

Through a press release issued by K Elundang, General Secretary and WH Maring, Speaker, the NSF appreciated the NPSA for revealing a case where a certain constable, MKR Pillai, from the 1971 Cadre was trying to supersede other seniors through illegal lobbied appointments. Concurring that the NSF was convinced that the information given by the NPSA in this regard was authentic, the students’ organization concluded that deep-rooted, high-degree of nepotism and corruption have badly soiled the supposedly impeccable institution as the Police department.

The Federation also while expressing surprise at the reality of a constable being promoted many times out of turn and superseding seniors, questioned how new posts could be created at whim in order to accommodate an individual, that too out of turn.

Further questioning how a proposal for out-of-turn promotion could be initiated by the Government and questioning his qualifications justifying his illegal promotion all the while denying the same to deserving officers, the Federation asserted that these practices were a denial of rights as well against the wisdom of the NSF. If necessary, the NSF was ready to join hands with the NPSA to check attempts of the said constable which was founded on money power, it stated.

It also called upon the State Government to take seriously the representation submitted by the NPSA and expressed confidence that the assurance given to the representatives would be fulfilled.
