DIMAPUR, MAY 13 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) on 12th of May 2012 held a joint meeting with the Jessami Public Leaders, the Pochuri Public Forum (PPF), Jessami Youth Organisation, Matikhru Students’ Union, Matikhru Village Council, Tangkhul Students Union (TKS), Chakhesang Students’ Union and ANSAM on the issue arising between Jessami and Matikhru- Meluri villages at Akash Bridge.
Stating this in a press note issued by Tongpang Ozukhum, Assistant General Secretary of NSF, it was informed that during that meeting the NSF offered a ‘four point appeal’ to both sides so as to settle the issue amicably within the Nagas family. The four point formula of the NSF states firstly that the “issue should be settled through village to village dialogue”.
The second point states that Naga ancestral and traditional boundary should be respected and regarded strongly by both the groups as per the customs of the Nagas. Thirdly, the issue between the Naga villages should not be allowed to become inter- state issue but should be amicably settled within the Nagas without inviting state government forces by both sides.
Lastly, both the groups were urged to support and cooperate with the initiative and effort of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) and Pochury Public Forum (PPF) towards bringing a permanent settlement.
The NSF informed that both the parties appreciated and agreed to abide by the four point appeal made by the Federation. The parties also acknowledged that the NSF shall intervene in the issue if any party go against the appeal made by the NSF.
The NSF delegation also inspected the burnt granaries at Meluri village and expressed displeasure at the unfortunate incident and urged both the community to desist from such actions in the future. The Federation also appealed to the state government to provide ex-gratia and compensation to affected victims.
