NSGEWA reacts to State Govt’s counter affidavit

Dimapur, September 6 (MExN): The Nagaland Senior Government Employee Welfare Association (NSGEWA) has stated that the State Government should not compare the Naga political movement with unemployment problem. This was stated in response to the State Government’s counter affidavit filed in the Supreme Court of India in connection with the Special Leave Petition of NSGEWA. The petition stated: “…the frustration amongst the educated unemployed youth had reached alarming rate and to vent their frustration they had started joining various Insurgencies Groups.”

The NSGEWA in a press note issued by its press secretary Medoselhou stated that it questions the ground reality of the State Government’s statement.  “Is it true that people particularly the educated youth are joining underground groups due to frustrations for employment and not for the National cause?  Whether esteemed Naga citizens can agree with the statement of the State Government that our Educated Youth are joining Underground Group due to frustration for employment and not for political consciousness?”

It also stated: “Naga political movement is a democratic movement for sovereignty and not for insurgency movement as termed by the State Government. It has demeaned the Naga Political Movement and the Underground Government by the State Government for they can not be termed as insurgency groups which are highly unacceptable.”

It further added that people who joins the underground movement are patriots and not insurgents as alleged by the State Government in their affidavit for they know very well the hardship and difficulties of underground life but they had the determination and conviction to sacrifice on the alter of the Nation’s Sovereignty.

Moreover, it said that statements should not be made just for the sake of wining the case. “…this has a far reaching serious consequences for it is highly misleading and for far from truth. If Naga Political Movement which has the recognition of the Government of India as a unique Political issue can correspondence with a mere unemployment problem in the State by the State Government in the Supreme Court. Can one hope the Supreme Court bring solution to the Indo – Naga Problem?”
